Hello, I'm Sarah Moe and as my description says, this blog is an assignment for my Reporting Contemporary Issues class. Twice a month I'll be covering City Council meetings, a subject I'm currently most familiar with because of the Amy Poehler show "Parks and Rec." There will also be stories on the presidential election.
A year or so ago I set up a blog, posted twice, and decided it was too weird to use the Internet as my diary. So I returned to ink and paper and never looked back. Thus I'm not a blogger -- or wasn't, until I got this assignment. It's a new experience, but I think this blog will be much easier to keep than my other one. This is not only because I'm being graded for it, but also because it will be about one topic: politics.
This assignment is different than any other I've received because people might see it. When I give an article to one of my journalism professors, I know the public won't see it. When I send an article to the editor of my school's paper The Mirror, I know the public will see it. But I don't know who is reading the words I'm currently typing. It's different, but exciting in a way. I hope the newswriting I've done in college will be able to transfer nicely to this format, and I'm looking forward to the semester.
